Right of Disposal
When buying products from the Norwegian Hydrographic Service, the user obtains right of disposal. This grants the user the
right to dispose the product for internal or private use, including copying and for presentation purposes. Unless otherwise
agreed, it is illegal to scan and digitalise analogue products or copy our software.
Right of Disposal authorizes the following:
• Free use of printed charts or analogue copies of charts.
• Copying for internal or private use. Copying may also be allowed if the buyer has an agreement with KOPINOR. Copying for sales or distribution externally is unauthorized without prior consent from the NHS and will require special permission.
Distribution via mass media etc.
Charts and sections of charts can be reproduced freely in mass media, publications and academic papers, as well as other publications
where the reproduction does not make up a considerable part of, or is the condition for, the publication. The Norwegian Hydrographic
Service must be given copyright credit.
Charts for planning purposes
Charts can be used freely for public planning and distribution if it is necessary for that purpose. In such cases, the Norwegian
Hydrographic Service must be duly informed and given copyright credit. The authorization for the distribution of the chart
will be limited for the specificied use.
Hydrographic originals
Users who want to buy copies of original hydrographic data must obtain permission by sending a written application to the
Norwegian Hydrographic Service. The application will be considered in consultation with the Royal Norwegian Navy. The use
of original hydrographic data may be restricted according to the right of disposal mentioned above.
Digitalising/scanning
Users who want to digitalise or scan a chart must contact the Norwegian Hydrographic Service for a written permission. The
right of disposal or/and copyright to a digital material should also be separately agreed on.
Marketing rights
Marketing rights represent the right to produce a copy of the product or an altered version of it for sale or distribution.
The user must acquire the right of disposal before acquiring marketing rights. Users who want marketing rights must contact
the Norwegian Hydrographic Service. The Norwegian Hydrographic Service reserves the right to accept or reject applications. We
will take action if agreements are breached and will claim compensation for illegal utilisation.
Responsibility for errors or faults in our products will follow the general agreement and compensation law. The Norwegian Hydrographic Service accepts no responsibility for any damage caused by the use of our products. Customers are responsible for making sure that the product covers their need.
